1. Professional achievements
Syed came to the United States after completing his medical school in Pakistan, driven by his passion for evidence-based and research-oriented medicine, which has earned him numerous accolades in both clinical and research fields in a short span. He won the best resident award in all three years of his internal medicine residency, best educator ward, and served as a chief resident. Post-residency, Syed joined cardiac amyloidosis fellowship, and is the only physician in Pittsburgh to have a dedicated 2-year training in this subspeciality. As a research-enthusiast, he has developed a diagnostic model for early detection of this under-recognized fatal disease called transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis. He has won numerous national and international awards including Young Investigator Award by the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (2020), Best Research award by the American College of Cardiology, Pennsylvania chapter (2020), Outstanding Young Investigator award by the Central Society for Clinical and Translation Research (2021), National Henry Christian award by the American Federation for Medical Research (2021), Outstanding Researcher award by the Department of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh (2021) and Young Investigator Award Finalist at the European Society of Cardiology scientific meeting (2021).

Syed spearheaded the steering committee for Community Outreach and Cardiovascular Health (COACH) initiative that offers health awareness, education and services, particularly focusing on the underprivileged communities, to prevent cardiovascular disease. Syed has served in various free clinics in Pittsburgh as well as Mckeesport, and has led numerous health screening events in the financially disadvantage as well as LGBTQ communities. He has been recognized for his services by the University of Pittsburgh, Division of Philanthropic and Alumni Engagement, by awarding him Galal M. Ziady award for his humanitarian services. He was also honored with ‘The Helping Hand’ title at a health screening event in a Catholic church in Mckeesport during the pandemic. Syed has also been in the driving seat of the vaccination campaigns in various communities in Pittsburgh. Currently, Syed is working on a ‘Health for All’ registry that aims to enroll uninsured patients for their long-term follow-up and medical care in Philadelphia.
