Dr. Luke Freml grew up in Denison, Iowa and graduated from Denison-Schleswig High School. He continued his education at Drake University where he majored in Pharmaceutical Science and graduated with University Honors. After graduation, he continued his education at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
While in dental school Dr. Freml was active in multiple areas of research. Initially, he co-authored a paper with the Department of Pharmacology on incision pain mechanisms. He twice received the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research Award, and he presented his research at the American Association for Dental Research national meetings in 2006 and 2007. Dr. Freml continued his research through graduation with the American College of Prosthodontists Research Fellowship. On graduation, he was presented the Outstanding Student Award in oral surgery by the American Association of Craniofacial Pain.
Dr. Freml completed his four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center in July 2012. During his training Dr. Freml treated patients at hospitals in the Western suburbs of Chicago. Those hospitals included Loyola University Medical Center, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, and Hines VA Medical Center. As the Chief Resident, he contributed to a publication on minimizing radiation dosages for dental CT scans.
Dr. Freml is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a member of the American Dental Association. He is certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
In his free time, Dr. Freml enjoys spending time with his wife Sarah and their two children, Wes and Reese. His other interests include snow skiing, fishing, hunting, and water sports.
