Dr. Iris Buchanan-Perry, M.D., MSc., FAAP

Dr. Buchanan is an exceptional physician and mentor. I have been privileged to work closely with her as an intern, a senior resident and now an attending. She has demonstrated her commitment to excellent patient care. In her medical practice, she goes above and beyond for her patients and is a strong advocate for them. I have watched her share in their joys and their successes and provide support through difficult times. Regarding resident education, she is well regarded as a mentor – specifically in research and quality improvement and career guidance. It is my pleasure to highly recommend her for this award.

Dr. Buchanan-Perry is a hybrid physician! She provides outstanding Hematology service, especially for children with Sickle Cell Disease at the AFLAC Blood Disorders module at Children\\\’s at Hughes Spalding. This involves weekly outpatient care and periodic inpatient consultation services. Dr. Buchanan-Perry provides primary care Pediatrics service at Morehouse Healthcare. She strives to be the best and continuously updates her knowledge as new discoveries change the face of our practice. Her patients absolutely adore her caring, engaged style. They rely on her to provide to up to date, evidence-based education. I wholeheartedly support Iris Buchanan-Perry, MD, MS for the Doctors\\\’ Choice Award.

I have known Dr. Buchanan for more than 10 years– she and I have been colleagues at Morehouse School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. I have directly observed her clinical, teaching, and research skills. She is one of the most dedicated physicians I have had the privilege to work with. She is committed to her patients, and treats each of them with dignity, respect, kindness and compassion. She has excellent rapport with the parents of her patients. On more than one occasion, I have been told by her patients how much they value her as their pediatrician. She has provided care for the mothers and the children–a testament to how long she has been in practice, and the type of physician she is. Dr. Buchanan also teaches on a regular basis to the medical students, resident physicians, and on occasion, fellows in training. Her approach is to use evidence based medicine as the methodology for instruction. She has high expectation from her learners, and rightly so. Students who have been trained by her are evident in the high level knowledge they possess, and the keen desire to always seek the best information source as they determine how best to treat their patients. I am honored to have known and worked with Dr. Buchanan. If there were a \’golden apple\’ award for physicians, she would be very worthy of this award.
