Dr. Houman Solomon completed his Doctorate of Medicine as well as two Master of Science degrees (Pathology and Applied Physiology) at Rosalind Franklin University in Chicago in 2002. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Solomon completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California. Dr. Solomon also completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic, Bariatric and Robotic Surgery (Minimally Invasive Surgery) at Stanford University Medical Center. While at Stanford, in addition to being a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Surgery, he was also fortunate to study under Dr. Myriam Curet, Chief Medical Officer of Intuitive Surgical (maker of Da Vinci surgical Robot) which sparked his interest in the field of Robotic Surgery. Dr. Solomon is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Solomon’s main areas of interest include Bariatric Surgery and incorporation of laparoscopic and robotic techniques in bariatric, gastrointestinal, hernia and cancer surgery. Dr. Solomon has authored numerous publications in various areas of surgery throughout his career. Dr. Solomon is a member of several surgical societies, including the American College of Surgeons, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and recently became one of the few weight-loss surgeons in the country to receive the prestigious title of “Fellow of American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery” (FASMBS) and “Center of Excellence Surgeon”. Dr. Solomon is also a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and American Hernia Society. Dr. Solomon is a pioneer in the field of minimally invasive surgery and has brought “scarless” surgery to the South Bay. Dr. Solomon’s accomplishments also include being a consultant to the medical device industry as well as an instructor to other surgeons interested in mastering Bariatric and Hernia operations.
Dr. Solomon currently serves as the Department of Surgery Chair at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
