He went to the University of Toronto and earned an Honors Degree in Pharmacology in 1994, and then on to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Sabelis was in his third year of dental school and at the top of his class when one of his instructors suggested that he choose a specialty instead of becoming a general dentist.
Dr. Sabelis spent the following summer volunteering at an orthodontist’s office and that sealed the deal. He loved the upbeat office atmosphere, as well as working with children and families. He enjoyed witnessing how happy patients were when they got their braces removed. It was rewarding to see all the things an orthodontist did to improve confidence in children and adults.
After earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1998, Dr. Sabelis pursued an additional two-year residency at Tufts to obtain specialty training in orthodontics. He received several awards in dentistry and orthodontics and was inducted into the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, in 1998.
After completing his education, he went to work in a private orthodontics practice until he purchased his own practice in 2009.
Dr. Sabelis and his wife Kristen live in Sturbridge with their two daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, skiing and traveling.
He also is a musician who plays guitar and writes music. As a teen, Dr. Sabelis earned a spot in a Canadian musical production that included 100 musicians and held performances throughout Canada and parts of the U.S. Here’s an insider tip: Dr. Sabelis will play guitar in the office if you ask him!
