Dr. Shanthan Ganesh, MBBS, BSC(MED), FRACS, MMIS

Dr Shanthan Ganesh is a specialist Colorectal and General surgeon.

He graduated from medicine at the University of New South Wales in 2001. He completed his General Surgery training in Sydney, obtaining his FRACS in General surgery in 2009. He also has a Master of Minimally Invasive Surgery (University of Adelaide) and a Master of Surgery (University of Sydney). He was selected for the Colorectal Speciality training program with Fellowships undertaken at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide and the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, under the auspices of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand.

He specialises in the treatment of perianal conditions such as Haemorrhoidal disease and anal fissure. Other areas of interest include laparoscopic colorectal surgery for both benign and malignant colorectal conditions and laparoscopic general surgery (laparoscopic cholecystectomy and hernia repair).

He is accredited for colonoscopy through Gastroenterological Society of Australia.

He also performs trans-anal Endoscopic resection of large polyps and early rectal cancers.

He is a early adaptor of the taTME( trans anal Total Mesorectal Excision) which is a new minimally invasive technique to remove advanced low rectal cancers. This allows patients to avoid a permanent colostomy. He a is a member of the faculty in Australia and New Zealand which runs workshops for other colorectal surgeons to learn this technique.
