About

Medical education is a true passion of mine, one that has been strengthened through a range of academic and editorial appointments. Being faculty at the Osler Institute, the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, VCOM, and the University of Virginia School of Medicine is rewarding and an honor. However, I look forward to working with undergraduate and medical students because they are the most enthusiastic.

I grew up in Houston, graduated from the Dr. Michael Debakey High School for Health Professions in the Texas Medical Center, and served in the United States Army Reserves. During the Gulf War, I was deployed to South Korea. While still in the US Army Reserves, I graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Then I completed an internship in general surgery in Dallas and an ophthalmology residency in Los Angeles. My clinical and research interests in medicine and merging technology have resulted in several publications and editorial appointments. I specialize in eye surgery to improve vision and prevent blindness in our military veterans. I am currently the ophthalmology residency director for the Veterans Affairs in Salem, Virginia.
